At Work in Glacier National Park

My name is Cheri Seli. I am many things - a wife, a mom, a Nana - but I am also a photographer. Although raised in North Carolina, I have lived in Montana most of my adult life.
Encouraged by colleagues and inspired by the sights and sounds of nature, I was led to begin being more serious about sharing my love of the natural world through Heartwood Arts Photography
Since the age of 12, birds have been a life attraction, sowing the seeds that produced a love for the wild and beautiful outdoors. Recording these experiences with a camera has become a passion, and I hope to give the viewer a sense of wonder about the creation surrounding us.
I had several important mentors while studying toward a masters' degree in Wildlife Biology at NC State University, planning a career as a naturalist in the NC State Park System. With guidance from my professors, I began to build a collection of photos to use in environmental education. My interest in and Love of photography has never waned.
I have tried to continue learning new techniques in photography as it has become increasingly digitized and to stay current with new trends. I will work on a new idea or method I've discovered until I get it right or decide it doesn't meet my needs> I love that I can take my work anywhere ~ I have photographed many places in the US, as well as countries across the globe. I love to travel, and while I may forget my toothbrush, the binoculars and camera gear are never left behind!
Photography is, to me, the capture of light in contrast with shadow; I attempt to capture the color and texture produced by the light. But beyond that, it is a way to capture that light at a precise moment: It might be a bird intent on finding a morsel to eat - or a child in a moment of repose, eyes, gazing into the future - or a frond of grass catching a ray of light in just the right way. My work is varied, eclectic, drawing many subjects into focus in hope that you, the viewer, may be drawn into the love of seeing the world through my lens.
It is my hope and expectation that the enjoyment of that captured moment will be as enjoyable for the viewer as it is for the
